I have never written a blog before now. However, being a runner, I do keep a daily log of all my runs, workouts, and mileage progressions and then write a brief description about how my run went. Unlike a blog, instead of posting my log online for others to read, I keep it on my hard disk for future references. I have read blogs of other athletes to get their perspective on things such as training and workouts. To me, a blog is kind of like someones online Journal that the public is allowed to access and read. I believe that by reading someones blog, a lot can be learned about that persons personality and the way that person thinks and writes.
Some of the fears I have with blogging is that anyone can read online blogs without the blogger knowing who exactly is doing the reading. I am also afraid of the comments I may receive from people who does read my blog and what they might think of my opinion on things. For the most part, blogging doesn't seem too bad. It is new to me, but I am excited and looking forward to writing more blogs for this course and reading blogs that other students write.

Thomas, perhaps the example of the outside audience that I showed you in class didn't make you feel any better about the public aspect of these blogs! We'll see what happens, but I'm glad you're willing to try this out and see how your writing changes throughout our six weeks in the course. Do you run on a team for Davis? You sound fairly serious about it, so I assume it's somewhat competitive? I've tried to take up running and am really struggling--any quick tips for a novice?!
I do run Track and Cross Country for UC Davis and yes college running is really competitive which is why I do take my running very seriously. There is no doubt that running is not easy. Especially with school, work and what not, it is hard to squeeze time in the day to run. However, the actual running does get easier with time and consistency. I've been running for a little over six years now, ever since freshmen year of high school running 20 miles a week, and now running about 100 miles a week. So the running part is fairly easy for me. The hard part is not being lazy and actually getting out the door and getting it done. If you're really serious about running and want to improve, then making it a daily routine is a must. And of course eating healthy and proper rest helps.
